Tony Trabert C. Marak, IFS (Retd.), is a distinguished former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Government of Meghalaya, and an eminent environmental leader with more than four decades of exemplary service in forestry, biodiversity conservation, environmental governance, education, and public administration. Renowned for his integrity, strategic vision, and commitment to sustainable development, he brings invaluable leadership and governance expertise to Jeevantika Global.

Professional Formation

A postgraduate in Botany from Gauhati University, Mr. Marak joined the Indian Forest Service (IFS) in 1977 and received advanced professional training in forestry, wildlife management, plant tissue culture, and social and community forestry at premier institutions in India and the United Kingdom. These included the Indian Forest College, Forest Research Institute, Punjab Agricultural University, and the Oxford Forestry Institute under the prestigious British Council Fellowship Programme.

Public Service & Institutional Leadership

During his distinguished career, he held several senior leadership positions, including Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Chief Conservator of Forests, Conservator of Forests, and Executive Chairman of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE). His leadership made significant contributions to sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, wildlife protection, environmental policy, community forestry, and educational governance in Meghalaya.

Mr. Marak represented India and the State of Meghalaya at numerous international forums and professional exchange programmes across the United States, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Belgium, Kenya, and Singapore. He also served as Resident Coordinator of the Haggai Institute Advanced Leadership Programme, facilitating executive leadership programmes in Singapore and Maui, Hawaii.

Scholarship & Recognition

An accomplished author and respected thought leader, Mr. Marak has published scholarly works on elephant ecology, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable forest management. His contributions have earned national and international recognition for environmental conservation, wildlife protection, educational leadership, and public service. These honours include the Honorary Doctor of Divinity conferred by ACTS Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru, in recognition of his outstanding service to society.

Continuing Service

Following his retirement from the Indian Forest Service, he has continued to serve in prominent leadership and advisory capacities. These include Chairman of the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Meghalaya; Adviser to the State Education Commission; Member of the Academic Council of the Wildlife Institute of India; President of the Governing Body of Tura Christian College; and Member of the Board of Management of ACTS Group of Institutions, among other distinguished assignments.
